Library Assistant 3: Cataloger, Part-time

Duties: Perform copy cataloging and original cataloging in accordance with local standards. Other duties include assisting patrons, processing new materials, answering telephone calls and emails, handling donations, promoting library events, posting to social media and more. Must be willing and able to assist patrons with technology questions and device questions. Will often work unsupervised and be expected to solve problems and serve library users independently.

Qualifications: Bachelor Degree or previous library experience working with the public. Must be detail oriented, have experience with standard office equipment, possess above average typing/computer skills and be comfortable with the latest technology, social media, and devices. Must also be able to deal with multiple tasks and patrons simultaneously. Other required skills: ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when dealing with challenging patrons; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to learn Dewey Decimal system, automated circulation system, and library circulation policies and procedures; ability to work unsupervised, solve problems and serve library users independently.

Hours: Part-time at 12-16.25 hours a week. Tuesdays 4-8pm, Wednesdays 10am-2pm, Fridays 1-5pm and one or two Saturdays a month on rotation 8:45am – 1pm including holiday weekends rotation. Flexibility to cover other shifts required.

Salary: $14.97/hour, part-time year-round position with one week prorated vacation and sick time after 6 months. Library paid pre-employment medical exam with drug and alcohol screening and criminal background check required.
